HIL scientists publish a paper in HPLSE Journal

Omer Shavit, Yair Ferber, Evgeny Papeer, Arie Zigler – all R&D Physicists at HIL, – et. al. recently published a paper titled “Femtosecond laser-induced damage threshold in snow micro-structured targets”. The research was published in the 6th volume of the peer-reviewed High Power Laser Science and Engineering journal, by Cambridge University Press.

Shavit et. al.’s paper focuses on Optical Damage Threshold (ODT) of a ‘snow’ target, and reports on experiments that measured the ODT and energy deposition in the targets irradiated by a short pulse intense laser. ODT is one of several key parameters which, combined, dictate interaction between the laser and the target – and thus affect the acceleration of protons.
